Increase in Car-related theft
Waltham Forest has seen a shocking rise in catalytic converter thefts, a crime that causes misery for hundreds of residents a year and is pushing up car insurance premiums for everyone.
Data obtained by Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat London Assembly members, shows that catalytic converter thefts in our borough ballooned from just four in 2017 to a staggering 749 by 2021.
Residents on the doorstep tell us that local politicians must geta grip on this menace. We are calling on the Labour Mayor of London and Labour-run Waltham Forest Council to do more.
“We will work with the Safer Neighbourhood Team to set out our concerns and put more focus on catching these criminals,” said local Liberal Democrat campaigner Arran Angus.
